Introduction

Traditional, or "Western" medicine offers a vast array of diagnostic procedures, treatments, and even cures for many illnesses and diseases.  There is, however, a broad field of medicine that is far too frequently neglected or dismissed by Western medicine practitioners.  Often times holistic or alternative medicine approaches and treatments can provide effective healing where traditional medicine has not been able to help.  Alternative approaches may take more time, as they generally work with the body's own natural healing system.

One aspect of health maintenance is keeping our bodies as free as possible of toxins in everyday life.  Many common household products, including personal care items such as shampoos, toothpaste, etc. contain harmful ingredients that we aren't even aware of.  Healthy lifestyle coaching includes access to information in this area.

Through coaching in the area of alternative health options, you can explore nontraditional medicine modalities.  Whether you are looking for a way to supplement medical care you're already receiving, or you are looking for a whole new approach to your health, this exploration can reveal options that you had not previously considered.

Diet and exercise are the two areas where you can exert the most control over your own health.  Regardless of your abilities or disabilities, there are ways that you can manage these aspects of your health.  Explore through coaching what you can do to manage your health by managing what you eat and what you do with your body.  This is not diet by denial, but rather developing habits whereby you get essential nutrients, decrease harmful substances in your diet, and yet enjoy what you eat.  Exercise may be active or passive, depending upon your abilities.  Coaching can help you figure out what type and amount of exercise works best for you.  Coach Peg's work in the area relies heavily on the book, Eight Weeks to Optimum Health, by Dr. Andrew Weil.
